Alaskan Dream Cruises Shuts Down Operations

Alaskan Dream Cruises has ceased operations effective immediately, the company confirmed in a statement posted to its website. The Indigenous-owned cruise line, based in Sitka, Alaska, also outlined refund procedures for guests and travel advisors with existing bookings.

The company had not yet begun its 2026 summer cruise season. Alaskan Dream Cruises operated multi-night small-ship voyages throughout Southeast Alaska aboard four U.S.-built, U.S.-flagged vessels. Several ships were originally acquired from Cruise West, which shuttered in 2010 after offering similar expedition-style Alaska itineraries.

Alaskan Dream was a subsidiary of Allen Marine Tours, which operates day tours in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Tracy Arm and Hubbard Glacier. Allen Marine Tours is not affected by the closure and will continue its full schedule of Alaska excursions this summer.

In a statement, owner Jamey Cagle described the move as a strategic decision to realign business priorities. He said the company concluded that ending cruise operations would allow leadership to focus resources on core operations and ensure long-term sustainability. The statement also expressed gratitude to guests, partners, crew and Alaska Native communities who supported the cruise line over its 15-year history.

Guests awaiting refunds may consider alternative small-ship operators offering similar Southeast Alaska itineraries. UnCruise Adventures operates comparable vessels—some of them sister ships from the former Cruise West fleet—on multi-night routes across Southeast, Southcentral and Southwest Alaska. National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions offers six- to 14-day small-ship sailings that explore Southeast Alaska, British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest and the Inian Islands. HX Expeditions also operates expedition cruises in Southeast and Southwest Alaska.

Despite the shutdown, Alaska’s 2026 cruise season is expected to remain strong. Virgin Voyages, MSC Cruises and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection are scheduled to sail Alaska itineraries for the first time. Princess Cruises will deploy its new Star Princess to the Inside Passage, while 2026 will mark the final Alaska season for Cunard.

Alaskan Dream Cruises had operated since 2011 and was the only cruise line regularly calling at the Haida village of Kasaan on Prince of Wales Island, offering travelers a uniquely intimate perspective on Alaska’s Inside Passage.
