American Airlines Adds 185 Flights for Fall Football Season

American Airlines is ramping up its schedule this fall with over 185 added flights to align with key NFL and college football games between August 28 and January 5. The initiative, unveiled following the May 14 release of the 2025 NFL schedule, aims to serve traveling football fans with more convenient options tied directly to game dates.
Of the additional routes, 24 will support NFL matchups, most of which take place on Sundays. American will also add over 40 routes tied to Saturday college football games, focusing on Friday-to-Sunday roundtrip options. In total, the airline plans to offer approximately 22,000 seats on these football-focused flights.
The NFL season kicks off for American on September 11 with a special roundtrip between Reagan Washington National Airport and Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International Airport. The flight supports the Thursday night matchup between the Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers, with a return set for September 12.
In a notable international move, American will operate added flights between Miami and Madrid to support fans traveling to the November 16 NFL game in Spain, featuring the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders.
Several NFL destination cities will see a surge in capacity. Las Vegas, home to the Raiders, will welcome flights from Cleveland, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Nashville. Miami will receive added services from Baltimore, Buffalo, and Cincinnati. In Philadelphia, American will boost capacity with additional flights and larger aircraft to Buffalo and Kansas City, where the Eagles face the Chiefs on September 14 in a Super Bowl rematch.
Other NFL-related additions include new flights to Los Angeles from Detroit, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh, supporting games for the Rams and Chargers, and flights to New Orleans from San Francisco and Boston.
Green Bay, home to historic Lambeau Field, will be a key focus for added routes. American has confirmed at least three NFL weekends with added flights to Green Bay and will expand service throughout the season for additional Packers games. For the November 2 matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Packers, the airline will operate two roundtrip flights from its Charlotte hub.
On the college football side, the airline will operate Friday-to-Sunday flights for seven weekends from New York LaGuardia and DCA to South Bend, Indiana, supporting University of Notre Dame home games between September 12 and November 23.
With many of the new routes targeting destination cities popular with both football fans and vacationers, American is strategically pairing game-day travel with weekend getaway opportunities. According to the airline, the new offerings represent its largest-ever fall football schedule, combining sports enthusiasm with flexible, game-aligned travel options for fans nationwide.
