American Airlines is gearing up for football season by launching over 185 additional flights to serve fans traveling to both NFL and college games across the U.S. and internationally. The airline’s latest move, announced after the May 14 release of the NFL’s 2025 schedule, is aimed at capitalizing on the surge of travel demand tied to game weekends.

Between August 28, 2025, and January 5, 2026, American will provide around 22,000 seats on what it calls “football flights.” These include added service on 24 domestic routes tied to NFL games, typically played on Sundays, and more than 40 routes for Saturday college matchups. Roundtrips for college games will primarily span Friday to Sunday, offering fans convenient weekend travel options.

One of the key highlights of the NFL-focused additions is the international boost between Miami and Madrid. American will add flights for the November 16 game between the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders, to be held in the Spanish capital.

Domestically, American will kick off its NFL service on September 11 with a flight from Reagan Washington National Airport to Green Bay, Wisconsin, ahead of a Thursday night matchup between the Packers and Commanders. The return flight is scheduled for the following day. Flights are generally timed from Friday or Saturday through Monday to accommodate weekend games and leisure travel.

Popular NFL destinations will see multiple added routes. Las Vegas will receive flights from cities like Cleveland, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Nashville for Raiders games. Florida-bound fans can fly to Miami from Baltimore, Buffalo, and Cincinnati for Dolphins games. The airline is also targeting Eagles fans by adding flights from Philadelphia to Green Bay, Minneapolis, and Tampa, and upgauging aircraft to Buffalo and Kansas City for high-demand weekends.

Los Angeles, home to both the Chargers and Rams, will benefit from added flights from Detroit, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh, while New Orleans will welcome flights from San Francisco and Boston. American is also dedicating two extra flights on November 1 from Charlotte to Green Bay for the November 2 game between the Panthers and Packers.

Green Bay is receiving special attention, with multiple added routes throughout the fall season to serve fans eager to experience a game at the iconic Lambeau Field, known as the NFL’s most historic stadium.

College football fans are not left out. American has scheduled seven weekends of Friday-to-Sunday roundtrips from New York LaGuardia and Washington DCA to South Bend, Indiana, catering to Notre Dame supporters attending games between September 12 and November 23.

By aligning flight schedules with the 2025 football calendar, American Airlines aims to meet the growing demand from sports travelers seeking convenient, game-day-ready options.
