American Airlines Debuts Flagship Suites on 787-9

American Airlines has officially launched its new Flagship Suites on commercial flights, marking a major milestone in the airline’s premium product evolution. The first flight featuring the upgraded cabin took place on June 5, 2025, aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operating between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Los Angeles (LAX).
First unveiled in 2022, the Flagship Suite offers a fully lie-flat seat with privacy doors, chaise longue seating, wireless charging, and expanded storage. Soft touches include multicourse meals with wine pairings, branded amenity kits by Brandon Blackwood, and dual-fabric pillows with one “cool touch” side.
Each new 787-9 features 51 Flagship Suites, along with upgraded Premium Economy and Economy cabins designed to elevate the onboard experience. “Every aspect of our new 787-9 is designed to feel premium in nature,” said Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines.
American plans to roll out the new product across key long-haul and domestic routes. After the debut on the Chicago–LAX route, Chicago–London Heathrow (LHR) service followed on June 6. The Philadelphia–London Heathrow route will begin on August 6, followed by Philadelphia–Zurich (ZRH) on September 3, and Dallas–Brisbane (BNE) starting October 26.
All future Boeing 787-9s—at least 30 aircraft over the next four years—will be delivered with Flagship Suites. The premium product will also appear on American’s upcoming Airbus A321XLRs and be retrofitted to the Boeing 777-300ER fleet, positioning the airline as a strong competitor in the evolving premium travel market.
