It’s hot in Phoenix. In fact, the city has had more than 30 straight days of 100 degree heat or more.

But that is not hot enough to deter American airlines from adding two more routes from Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport.

American will fly to Pasco, Washington, and Tijuana, Mexico, from Phoenix starting February 15, 2024.

The airline plans to utilize its regional airline, American Eagle, with an Embraer E175 regional jet. The new flights are an attempt to bolster Phoenix as a hub, which many experts see as the weakest of the hubs for American Airlines.

American is also attempting to fight off the encroachment of Southwest Airlines at Phoenix.
American has added 30 flights out of the city for the summer.

Recently, in January, it began a Phoenix to Monterrey, Mexico, flight. American’s busiest hubs are at its home base in Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte and Chicago. Building a strong hub-and-spoke system in the Southwest is critical to Americans expansion. The airline has not previously served Pasco or Tijuana.

With Tijuana, American will now have 26 destinations in Mexico. It is the leading U.S. carrier in Mexico.
