American Airlines Expands Mexico Network With New ORD Routes

American Airlines is expanding its Mexico network with the launch of new routes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Mexico City and Queretaro, strengthening its position as the leading U.S. carrier in the transborder market. Starting October 26, 2025, the airline will begin year-round daily service between Chicago and Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX), entering a competitive corridor served by United Airlines, Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris.
The Chicago–Mexico City route marks a strategic addition to American’s international footprint and comes ahead of its seasonal launch of daily holiday flights between ORD and Queretaro International Airport (QRO), operating from December 18 through January 5, 2026.
The new Mexico routes are part of American’s broader push across Latin America and the Caribbean. In December, the airline will launch service from its Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) hub to Puerto Escondido, its 30th destination in Mexico. This follows the March 2025 debut of daily DFW–Tampico service, marking its 29th.
According to CAPA – Centre for Aviation, American leads the U.S.–Mexico transborder market with a 19.8% share of two-way seat capacity as of March 2025. United trails with 16.2%, followed by Volaris (14.1%), Delta (12.5%), Aeromexico (9.3%), and Viva Aerobus (6%).
American also announced new daily flights between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, beginning December 18. The airline plans to operate more than 430 daily flights to 97 destinations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean during the winter peak, with capacity up 10% year-over-year.
