American Airlines Passenger Fined $59K for Security Breach

A Philadelphia man has been fined nearly $60,000 after bypassing airport security and illegally boarding an American Airlines flight at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The breach triggered a full security sweep and forced the airline to cancel the flight, resulting in $59,143 in losses.
The incident occurred just after midnight on June 26, 2024, when Jonathan Beaulieu, 32, attempted to re-enter the secure area at Terminal C, claiming he had left his cellphone behind. When denied entry, he offered a $50 bribe to a security officer before forcing his way through a restricted area without TSA screening.
Surveillance footage later confirmed Beaulieu had successfully boarded an American Airlines aircraft. Authorities intervened before departure, but the flight had to be canceled and the aircraft searched.
Beaulieu was charged with unlawful entry into a secure airport area. On July 1, 2025, U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Hey ordered him to pay full restitution to American Airlines and placed him on one year of probation.
The case has raised concerns about vulnerabilities in airport security systems and prompted calls for stricter access controls and staff training. Airport officials have not commented on any internal disciplinary actions.
In a similar incident, Wicliff Yves Fleurizard was arrested in March 2024 for illegally boarding a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Austin using a photo of a child’s boarding pass. He hid in the lavatory and planned to occupy an empty seat. He now faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
