American Airlines pilot thanks those who paved her career path

American Airlines pilot Beth Powell says her parents’ support, along with encouragement from a teacher who recognized her math skills, led her to becoming a pilot. Powell spoke at the “Legacy of Firsts” event American hosted this month to honor pioneering Black aviators. “That tap on the shoulder was what I needed to become because I wouldn’t know what else I could do with loving math,” she said.
