American Airlines has unveiled plans to add 500 new maintenance positions and expand its heavy maintenance operations at its bases in Charlotte, Pittsburgh, and Tulsa. This significant increase in staffing, announced on September 9, 2024, will enhance the airline’s maintenance capacity and support its growing fleet.

The expansion will see Charlotte gain 133 new positions, including 122 aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs). Pittsburgh will see 44 new hires, with 40 dedicated to AMT roles. Tulsa, already a major hub for American’s maintenance operations, will see the largest increase with 321 new jobs, including 227 AMT positions.

Greg Emerson, American Airlines’ Vice President of Base Maintenance and Facilities, expressed enthusiasm about the growth. “American is excited to expand our Technical Operations workforce with more aviation maintenance positions. This growth allows us to enhance our maintenance capacity and build a strong pipeline of future team members,” he said.

The announcement follows a recent expansion in Tulsa, where the airline added over 300 positions in response to a $22 million grant from Oklahoma’s Business Development Incentive Program. Emerson acknowledged the support from the state, stating, “We’re very grateful to the State of Oklahoma Department of Commerce for this grant. It has directly contributed to adding hundreds of high-paying, skilled jobs to the Tulsa economy and allowed us to further enhance our maintenance facility.”

The new positions will support American Airlines’ commitment to maintaining high safety and operational standards as it continues to grow its fleet and services. The expansion at these key locations underscores the airline’s focus on strengthening its technical operations and ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency in its maintenance capabilities.
