American and Frontier Airlines Aircraft Clip Wings at BOS
On November 25, 2024, two aircraft operated by American Airlines and Frontier Airlines collided on the tarmac at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), causing damage to both planes. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the incident occurred around 12:00 local time in an area not under air traffic control.
The collision took place while an American Airlines Boeing 777 was being towed. The aircraft struck the wingtip of a stationary Frontier Airlines Airbus A321, which was parked at the gate. The American Airlines flight, identified as N772AN, had just arrived in Boston from London-Heathrow Airport (LHR), according to FlightAware data.
Fortunately, there were no injuries, and all passengers safely deplaned shortly after the collision. Video footage shared on social media platform X clearly shows the moment the two aircraft made contact, with the footage also revealing what appears to be a hole in the wing of the American Airlines Boeing 777.
Passengers on board the Frontier flight reported feeling the impact but were initially unaware of the cause. The Frontier Airlines spokesperson confirmed there were 200 passengers on board the A321 at the time of the incident.
Following the incident, both aircraft were removed from service for inspection. An American Airlines spokesperson stated that the Boeing 777 had been taken out of service for an assessment, while the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), which operates BOS Airport, confirmed that the jets were being checked for damage. Local reports suggest that neither plane is likely to fly in the near future.
The FAA launched an investigation into the incident on the same day, November 25, 2024, to determine the cause of the collision.
