All Nippon ANA to Invest $17.5bn in Fleet and Network Expansion by 2029

ANA Holdings has unveiled a record investment plan worth JPY2.7 trillion ($17.5 billion) covering fiscal years 2026 to 2028, outlining an aggressive strategy to expand its fleet, grow international networks, and strengthen cargo and digital capabilities ahead of major capacity growth at Tokyo Narita in 2029. The medium-term plan, announced on January 30, positions the group for sustained growth as global travel demand continues to recover and shift toward Asia-Pacific hubs.
Under the strategy, ANA Holdings plans to grow its total fleet to around 330 aircraft, surpassing its pre-pandemic peak of 303 aircraft. All Nippon Airways will begin taking delivery of additional Boeing 787-9 aircraft from August 2026. These widebodies will form the backbone of ANA’s long-haul international operations and will be equipped with newly developed cabin products across all classes. On the domestic side, ANA plans to introduce Embraer E190-E2 aircraft after FY2028 to improve efficiency on regional routes.
Low-cost subsidiary Peach Aviation is scheduled to introduce the Airbus A321-200NX (XLR) from FY2028. Peach aims to increase capacity by roughly 30% in available seat-kilometres, with international growth focused on services from Osaka Kansai. Across the group, ANA Holdings targets new-generation aircraft to account for about 80% of the fleet by the end of FY2025 and 90% by FY2030, supporting both cost reduction and sustainability goals.
Cargo operations are also a key pillar of the plan following the integration of Nippon Cargo Airlines. The international freighter fleet will include Boeing 747-8F, 777-200F, 767-300ER converted freighters, and 767-300F aircraft. A structural reform in FY2026 will partially transfer operational responsibility for the 777-200F fleet from ANA to NCA. ANA Holdings expects the integration to deliver around JPY30 billion (approximately $195 million) in synergies by FY2030.
Financially, the group is targeting operating income of JPY250 billion ($1.6 billion) in FY2028 and JPY310 billion ($2.0 billion) by FY2030, with an operating margin of 10%. Around JPY270 billion ($1.7 billion) of the investment is earmarked for digital transformation initiatives.
Looking ahead, ANA plans to leverage the 2029 expansion of Tokyo Narita International Airport to boost flights to and from the hub by 70%. Beyond aviation, the group is exploring new mobility businesses, including commercial drone delivery services targeted for launch in 2027 and future air taxi operations pending regulatory approval.
