Animawings is emerging as a promising new player in the Eastern European air travel market. This privately-owned Romanian airline, which launched in 2018 as a charter operator backed by Aegean Airlines, has steadily begun to carve out its niche in a competitive environment. Despite being relatively small, the airline is showing clear signs of potential growth and ambition, aiming to transform from a modest charter operator into a significant scheduled flight provider in the region.
According to the ch-aviation database, as of April 2025, Animawings operates a fleet of four aircraft, consisting of two Airbus A320s and two Airbus A220-300s. A key milestone for Animawings came in December 2024 when the airline received its first Airbus A220-300, leased from Azorra. This aircraft marked a new era for the carrier, providing modern efficiency and performance that the A220 is known for in the global aviation market. Looking ahead, the airline has plans to add four more A220-300 aircraft to its fleet within the next 12 months. This planned expansion is not just about increasing the number of flights; it represents a strategic move to build a competitive edge by modernizing the fleet and improving operational efficiency. In the long term, the airline envisions a fleet comprising between 10 to 12 A220 aircraft, which will be central to its efforts to establish a robust scheduled flight network throughout Eastern Europe.
At the recent Aviation-Event 2025 CLJ conference in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Animawings’ CEO Antonio Stoian shared insights into the carrier’s journey and growth strategy. Speaking at the event on March 21, 2025, Stoian detailed the airline’s evolution from a charter service into a scheduled flight operator. He emphasized that the continued growth of Romania’s travel market is a major driver behind their expansion plans. By focusing on increasing the frequency and reliability of their scheduled services, Animawings aims to capture a larger share of the market. The airline is investing not only in new aircraft but also in the development of its operational infrastructure and network connectivity.
