Asheville, N.C., will allow new hotels, with limits

The city of Asheville, N.C., is lifting a year-and-a-half-old ban on hotel construction, but strict rules on locations are expected to be imposed. Under a proposed ordinance, some areas will be closed off to development or reserved for smaller hotels “to really try to protect other neighborhood gentrification and displacement,” says a member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
