Asiana Expands to Prague, Boosting European Reach

As part of its continued push to strengthen its presence in Europe, Asiana Airlines is set to launch new flights to Prague, marking its seventh destination in the region. Beginning April 1, 2025, the airline will operate three weekly flights between Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) and Prague’s Václav Havel Airport (PRG) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The new route, served by a 311-seat Airbus A350-900 aircraft, is expected to enhance the carrier’s European network and offer more travel options for business and leisure passengers alike.

The addition of Prague to Asiana’s network comes on the heels of Korean Air’s longstanding service between Seoul and Prague. Since 2004, Korean Air, which completed its acquisition of Asiana in December 2023, has operated four weekly flights on the Seoul-Prague route. With the introduction of Asiana’s new service, there will be a total of seven flights per week connecting these two key cities, thereby increasing connectivity and offering greater flexibility for travelers. This collaborative approach between the two carriers is expected to boost passenger traffic and create a more robust transcontinental network between South Korea and Central Europe.

“Passengers will gain the opportunity to use a number of connecting flights within the Asiana Airlines network from Seoul to destinations in the region,” said Jiří Pos, Chairman of Prague’s Václav Havel Airport. “A further increase in the number of flights will also support business cooperation between the Czech Republic and South Korea and open the Czech Republic to more Asian tourists.” With Prague emerging as a focal point for cultural exchange and business ties, the new route is anticipated to strengthen bilateral relationships and further integrate the two vibrant regions.

Currently, Asiana Airlines operates flights to six major European cities: Barcelona, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Paris, and Rome. The addition of Prague represents a strategic move to lay the foundations for a broader network across Central and Eastern Europe. This expansion is expected to complement other connections between South Korea and the region, such as LOT Polish Airlines’ services from Budapest, Warsaw, and Wroclaw to Seoul, as well as Korean Air’s frequent flights to Budapest. Market research from Sabre Market Intelligence indicates that two-way origin and destination traffic between South Korea and Central and Eastern Europe reached approximately 926,000 passengers in the first 11 months of 2024, with the Seoul-Prague city pair ranking as the fourth-largest, carrying about 100,000 passengers.

Prague, renowned for its charming architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene, remains a popular tourist destination among South Koreans. The sustained appeal of the city is further reinforced by media influences; the 2005 South Korean TV drama series “Lovers in Prague” has contributed to the city’s status as a romantic getaway, especially on social media platforms like Instagram. According to the Czech Republic Embassy in Seoul, most Korean visitors to Prague fall within the 30-44 age group, making up 59.6% of all arrivals—a demographic that appreciates the city’s blend of historic allure and modern attractions.

Asiana’s new service to Prague not only expands its European reach but also reinforces its commitment to connecting Asia with key cultural and economic hubs in Europe. With increased frequency and strong market demand, the additional flights promise to deliver enhanced convenience, stimulate tourism, and support greater business links between the regions.
