ASKY Airlines Expands Routes, Builds African Codeshares
Togo-based ASKY Airlines is enhancing its network by adding more nonstop regional routes and forming strategic codeshares with African airlines, gearing up for its potential Boeing 787 arrivals in 2026. ASKY, partially owned by Ethiopian Airlines, operates across 29 African destinations using a fleet of 14 Boeing 737s, and now aims to simplify its route structure by offering more direct flights.
ASKY’s Commercial Director Date Dovene Tevi-Benissan announced plans to add two Boeing 737-8s to its fleet in 2025, facilitating new routes like Nouakchott in Mauritania. The airline is in talks with Mauritania Airlines for a codeshare agreement on this route. ASKY’s existing codeshare partnerships include Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, and discussions are underway to partner with Air Senegal, Gabon-based Afrijet, and Royal Air Maroc (RAM). These expansions will strengthen ASKY’s footprint in North, East, and Southern Africa, regions where it currently has limited reach.
To prepare for the 787 operations, ASKY is exploring potential fifth-freedom flights, such as a Lome-Cairo-Mumbai route, allowing the carrier to enter new markets with reduced risk. The larger aircraft will also enable ASKY to increase capacity in markets with bilateral frequency restrictions.
With these strategic moves, ASKY aims to broaden its network and better connect West and Central Africa to North, East, and Southern African regions, ensuring growth in underserved markets.
