Athens Airport passenger traffic above 2019 by +2.4% in Q1 2023
Strong performance driven by the International sector with over 80,000 additional passengers
Following a strong 2022 for Athens International Airport, with Passenger traffic recovering at 89% of 2019 levels, 2023 continues with a stronger momentum, already surpassing 2019 by 2.4% – and let’s have in mind that 2019 has been our record year…so far!!!!
In 2022, Athens was ranked 3rd best by ACI Europe in Passenger traffic recovery, amongst all major capital European airports.
During the 1st quarter of the year, Passenger traffic is above 2019 by 2.4% driven by the International sector with +2.9% and the Domestic with +1.1%, resulting in over 100 thousand additional passengers.
The strong performance in the International sector is even more impressive taking into consideration the fact that the Russian and the Ukrainian markets are missing, and China is yet to recover to its full potential.
In the International front (Non-stop traffic), TOP performance is recorded in Albania with +93% to 2019, followed by Israel with +78% and Austria with +54%. In absolute numbers, among the TOP20 International markets, strongest growth is recorded in Israel with over 69 thousand additional passengers, followed by France and Spain.
In terms of Foreign arrivals (Tourism), TOP performance is recorded in Serbia +237% to Q1 2019, followed by Romania +138%, Israel +82%, Switzerland +47% and the USA with +45%
