Traffic to Athens returned very strong in the Summer season, April to August, with 8mio PAX and just -10% to 2019.
From the list of TOP15 International markets in TOTAL PAX volumes, 7 Champions surpassed 2019, with a further 4 reaching over 90%. All in all, 17 out of 20 markets reached surpassed 85% of 2019.
United States of America is in the TOP position with 49 above 2019, followed by Austria, Israel, Hungary, Belgium, France and Canada.
The 7 Champion markets delivered over 337,000 PAX compared to 2019, on scheduled PAX round-trip / non-stop services.
Successful Route Development is the key driver for this spectacular Summer 2022 growth at Athens, with US Airlines (American, Delta & United) adding new destinations and new services, Sky Express entering the International market (Belgium, Cyprus, France, Italy and United Kingdom), airlines adding new services on existing markets (Arkia and BlueBird to Israel, Volotea and Transavia to France, WizzAir in Cyprus, Jet2.com in the United Kingdom), as well as airlines increasing capacity on existing routes (Austrian to Vienna, Aegean, El-Al and Israir to Tel-Aviv, Air France to Paris, Air Canada to Montreal and Toronto, Brussels Airlines to Brussels, British Airways and Aegean to the United Kingdom, Ryanair and WizzAir to Budapest) to name a few.
International traffic is developing even stronger during the first 15 days of September, with a total of 11 country markets above 2019 levels. In addition to above countries, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Netherlands and Switzerland reached and surpassed 2019 levels.
