Aurora Expeditions Achieves Prestigious B Corp Certification
Aurora Expeditions, a leader in polar exploration cruises, has proudly announced its certification as a B Corporation, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. Achieving B Corp status is a rigorous process that requires companies to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
The journey to certification began in 2021 and concluded with the cruise line officially becoming a B Corp this month. The process was described by the company as a “huge amount of time and effort,” underscoring the dedication Aurora Expeditions has to aligning its operations with its core values and principles.
B Lab, the nonprofit organization responsible for B Corp certifications, evaluated Aurora Expeditions across five key impact areas: governance, workers, community, customers, and the environment. To qualify for certification, companies must score at least 80 points; Aurora Expeditions surpassed this threshold with a score of 87.5, showcasing its exceptional commitment to creating positive impacts.
The certification requires businesses to undergo recertification every three years, ensuring ongoing compliance and dedication to the B Corp standards. Aurora Expeditions’ achievement places it among the elite group of tour operators in Antarctica and the Arctic to hold B Corp status, joining Intrepid Travel as one of the only two B Corp certified operators in these regions. This distinction highlights the company’s role as a pioneer in sustainable expedition cruising.
Globally, over 8,000 businesses have achieved B Corp certification, but Aurora Expeditions’ accomplishment is particularly notable in the tourism and expedition cruise sector. The company’s B Corp journey reflects its deep-rooted commitment to its purpose: to create ambassadors for the planet through responsible and impactful travel experiences.
By obtaining B Corp certification, Aurora Expeditions sets a new standard for success in the expedition tourism industry, demonstrating that businesses can indeed be a force for good. This milestone underscores the company’s dedication to not only exploring the world’s most remote and pristine environments but also preserving them for future generations.
