Australia’s Chartair Adds Pilatus PC-12 to Darwin Fleet

Chartair, based in Darwin, Australia, has announced the addition of a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft, received from sister carrier Air Link, and will base it at its Darwin operations. The aircraft, VH-AL4 (msn 1314), arrived in the Northern Territory on December 8, 2024, after a ferry flight from Sydney Bankstown, with stops in Cobar and Alice Springs.
Air Link acquired the 13-year-old turboprop in mid-2024, initially basing it at Bankstown. The aircraft is registered under Metro Holdings Australia Pty Ltd, which also holds the registration for other aircraft operated by Air Link and affiliated aeromedical operator AirMed.
Chartair, which operates a fleet of 41 aircraft from its bases in Darwin, Alice Springs, and Katherine, will now include the new PC-12 alongside its existing aircraft, such as Cessna 441s, 402Cs, 310Rs, 208Bs, and 210s. Chartair provides a mix of charter, scheduled passenger, and contracted mail services.
Since its arrival in Darwin, VH-AL4 has already completed several roundtrips between Darwin and Truscott-Mungalalu, located approximately 500 kilometers southwest of Darwin. This remote airport primarily serves as a staging post for workers traveling to and from offshore oil and gas fields in the Timor Sea, in addition to supporting aeromedical and search and rescue operations.
Air Link continues to operate two additional PC-12/47Es, further expanding its capabilities in regional aviation services.
