Avelo Airlines is set to expand its network by introducing a new route to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Connecticut, starting July 12. This new service marks Avelo’s entrance as the 43rd airline at Dulles, a major hub for United Airlines, and underscores its ongoing growth in the northeastern United States.

The new route will feature twice-weekly flights operated by a Boeing 737NG, and will be the only direct service between HVN and IAD. Avelo’s decision to connect these two airports reflects its strategy to link small and mid-sized markets with larger hubs, enhancing accessibility and offering more travel options to its passengers.

Avelo initially launched operations at HVN in November 2021, primarily serving destinations in Florida. The airline has rapidly expanded its footprint from HVN, which now serves as its original East Coast base in the U.S., adding numerous routes including recent introductions to major hubs like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

With this latest addition, Avelo not only bolsters its route offerings but also enhances its strategic position in the region. The airline’s growth at HVN includes increasing the total number of airports served to 21. Notably, Avelo connects HVN with significant international hubs and popular destinations like Orlando International Airport and Chicago Midway, catering to both leisure and business travelers.

Avelo CEO Andrew Levy emphasized the convenience and efficiency of the new route, noting, “This exclusive nonstop service makes exploring the abundance of experiences our nation’s capital has to offer a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut visitors.”

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont commented on the economic impact of Avelo’s expansion, stating, “Avelo’s continued growth in Connecticut is helping to strengthen connectivity for companies that are already here and will stimulate further regional development.”

This expansion by Avelo Airlines not only highlights its commitment to enhancing its network but also plays a significant role in improving air travel connectivity between important regional and national hubs, supporting economic growth and accessibility.
