Avelo Airlines, established in 2021 by former Allegiant Air President Andrew Levy, has commenced flights from its headquarters city, Houston, for the first time.

Initially launching operations in April 2021 with flights from Hollywood Burbank Airport on the U.S. West Coast, followed by East Coast service from Tweed–New Haven Airport (HVN) in November 2021, Avelo has expanded its network to encompass 53 U.S. airports, including six operational bases. Despite this extensive reach, the carrier had not yet offered service from Houston, where its business operations are based.

On June 14, Avelo inaugurated service between Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) and HVN, marking its debut flight from the Texas city. The route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, exclusively serviced by Avelo.

HVN, now Avelo’s largest operating base, boasts a network of 26 routes served by the airline.

“The launch of the HOU-HVN route underscores the strategic importance of both Houston and New Haven within Avelo Airlines’ growing network,” stated the airline in a recent press release.

With approximately 230 employees based in Houston, Avelo’s CEO Andrew Levy emphasized the significance of this milestone: “This route marks a significant moment as we introduce Avelo’s inaugural flight from our hometown of Houston. Connecting our national headquarters with our largest operational base, Avelo will be the sole airline linking Houston and Connecticut.”

Situated approximately 60 miles south of Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport serving Hartford, and 80 miles northeast of New York’s LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports, HVN strategically positions Avelo to enhance connectivity across its expanding network.

In addition to the new HOU-HVN route, Avelo recently launched three other routes from HVN: Lakeland, Florida (twice weekly); St. Louis (twice weekly); and Traverse City, Michigan (weekly).

Currently, Avelo operates a fleet of 16 leased Boeing 737NG aircraft, with plans to add five additional leased 737NGs sourced from Brazil’s GOL Linhas Aereas by the first quarter of 2025.

As Avelo continues to expand its footprint in the U.S. aviation market, the launch of flights from Houston underscores its commitment to providing accessible and convenient travel options to passengers across the country.
