Ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines just announced the introduction of its exclusive nonstop service from Oregon’s greater Salem/Portland area to two highly in-demand destinations: Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

As a result, Avelo—which made its appearance in 2021 amid the pandemic—becomes the first commercial airline to fly out of Salem Municipal Airport (SLE) in almost 15 years, and the only one to offer service from SLE to Sin City and Southern California.

Seventy percent of Oregon’s entire population lives in the Willamette Valley, which is home to nearly 100 cities, including Salem, Portland, Eugene, Corvallis and Beaverton. Avelo’s new service offered out of SLE will make it easier and more affordable than ever for residents of the Beaver State to visit these two world-famous vacation destinations.

Low introductory fares start at $39 for one-way travel between SLE and Las Vegas’ main airfield, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS); or Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), the most convenient and hassle-free option for accessing most of the L.A. region’s popular tourist attractions.

Avelo will operate twice-weekly nonstop service between Salem and the Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas, with flights scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays, starting on October 5, 2023. On October 6, the airline will launch also its twice-weekly nonstop service between Salem and the City of Angels, with flights being initially offered on Mondays and Fridays. The latter route will afterwards be adjusted to run on Thursdays and Sundays, beginning on November 2. Both routes will be flown using Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737 aircraft.

“Salem—say hello to Avelo! We are excited to announce nonstop service from the greater Salem/Portland region to Las Vegas and Los Angeles,” said Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO, Andrew Levy. “Say goodbye to the hassle of long and expensive gas-guzzling drives to other distant airports, and say hello to a new era of convenience, low fares and reliability.”

“What started out as an endeavor led by a few key stakeholders five years ago has grown into a full-blown community-wide effort to restore commercial air service to Oregon’s capital and the state’s second largest city,” said Travel Salem CEO, Angie Villery. “The tourism and hospitality industry has backed this initiative from the very beginning, along with leaders from the private sector; the support from Salem’s hoteliers, restauranteurs and business owners has been nothing short of amazing. We cannot wait to welcome Avelo Customers to Salem—the birthplace of the Oregon Territory and gateway to Oregon’s Wine Country.”
