Avianca Cargo Launches Daily Freighter Flights for Amazon

Avianca Cargo has begun operating daily cargo flights for Amazon between Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG) and Miami International Airport (MIA), marking a strategic partnership that enhances Amazon’s air freight reach in Latin America. The new service, which started on April 8, utilizes a Boeing 767-300F owned by Amazon and operated by Avianca.
The Colombia-based airline says the partnership strengthens Amazon’s logistics network and expands the company’s presence in the region. The dedicated freighter flights will carry goods such as Colombian flowers and other essential products, helping streamline deliveries and boost cross-border commerce between Colombia and the United States.
“This dedicated air cargo service will help businesses of all sizes connect with customers across these important market segments more efficiently,” said Tom Bradley, Amazon’s director of global air cargo. He added that the expansion supports growing regional demand and improves service reliability in Latin American markets.
Avianca Cargo CEO Diogo Elias emphasized the long-term value of the partnership, stating, “Steps like these contribute to the economic development and positioning of the region’s cargo industry. This milestone reflects our commitment to building long-term partnerships that create mutual benefit.”
This agreement mirrors Amazon’s broader cargo strategy in the U.S., where the company contracts Sun Country Airlines to operate a fleet of Boeing 737-800 freighters. Sun Country will end 2025 with 20 Amazon aircraft in operation, providing scheduled services managed by Amazon while Sun Country handles operations and maintenance.
The new Avianca partnership marks a significant step in expanding Amazon’s logistics network deeper into South America.
