Azamara Teams With Lowell for Eclipse Cruises

Azamara Cruises has announced a partnership with the Lowell Observatory to enhance its three solar eclipse sailings in 2026. The collaboration will bring astronomers onboard to lead lectures, stargazing sessions, and interactive demonstrations, along with live eclipse narration. Guests will also receive specially designed viewing glasses to safely experience the rare celestial event.
“Partnering with Lowell Observatory allows us to elevate this rare phenomenon into something even more meaningful for our guests,” said Dondra Ritzenthaler, CEO of Azamara Cruises. “It’s a natural extension of our Destination Immersion philosophy, offering not just a view of the world, but a richer connection to it.”
The total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, with three Azamara ships positioned in prime viewing areas. Azamara Onward will sail an 11-night itinerary through Greece, Turkey, and Italy, departing Athens on August 2. Azamara Quest will operate a 12-night voyage around Ireland, departing Dublin on August 7. Azamara Journey will feature an 18-night sailing through Iceland, Greenland, and Quebec, embarking August 8 from Reykjavik.
Lowell Observatory, founded in 1894 and known for its role in Pluto’s discovery, will provide expertise and guidance throughout these sailings. “Our partnership with Azamara Cruises gives us a new way to share the wonder of eclipses at sea,” said Amanda S. Bosh, executive director of Lowell Observatory.
The collaboration promises guests an unforgettable mix of scientific insight and luxury cruising, turning the 2026 eclipse into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
