In a significant move towards fleet modernization, Azores Airlines (S4) based in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, proudly received its inaugural A320-200N on November 7, 2023. The airline is set to retire its three A320-200s, making way for the introduction of new-generation aircraft.

The newly acquired aircraft, with registration CS-TSK (msn 11664), made its journey from Toulouse Blagnac to Lisbon. Upon arrival, it is slated to undergo essential pre-induction maintenance and registration procedures. Azores Airlines has expressed its commitment to expeditiously complete these formalities, signaling the A320neo’s swift entry into revenue service. The carrier, however, has not provided specific timelines or schedules for the commencement of operations.

Configured for a single-class layout accommodating up to 168 passengers, the A320neo represents a modern and efficient addition to Azores Airlines’ fleet. The airline anticipates the delivery of its second A320neo in early 2024, with the third expected to follow suit in early 2025. It is worth noting that the initial delivery experienced a slight delay, arriving four months behind the original deadline.

Azores Airlines already boasts a fleet that includes two A321-200Ns and three A321-200NX(LR)s, showcasing its commitment to staying at the forefront of aviation technology. Notably, the carrier has no plans to reintroduce widebody operations at this time. Within the same Grupo SATA umbrella, SATA Air Acores (SP) operates two DHC-8-Q200s and five DHC-8-Q400s, primarily servicing local routes connecting the picturesque Azores archipelago.

As Azores Airlines embraces the A320neo, this strategic move aligns with the airline’s vision for a more modern and fuel-efficient fleet, promising enhanced passenger experiences and operational efficiency in the years to come.
