Azul Appoints John Slattery to Strategy Committee

Azul has appointed John S. Slattery to its Strategy Committee, effective February 20, 2026, as the airline prepares to finalize its emergence from Chapter 11 restructuring.
Azul, the largest airline in Brazil by number of cities served and direct domestic routes, said Slattery joins at a pivotal moment as the company transitions from restructuring to long-term growth planning.
Slattery brings decades of global aerospace and aviation leadership experience. He currently serves as a director of BETA Technologies and as Chairman of Forgital Group. Most recently, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at GE Aerospace from June 2022 to June 2024. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of GE Aviation from September 2020 to June 2022, overseeing one of the world’s largest aircraft engine suppliers and managing global commercial strategy, operations and regulatory engagement.
Earlier in his career, Slattery was President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation from January 2016 to September 2020, where he led the global commercial aircraft business of Embraer.
Azul CEO John Rodgerson said Slattery’s deep industry knowledge, global perspective and leadership in highly regulated industries will support Azul as it exits Chapter 11 and focuses on disciplined, sustainable growth. He highlighted Slattery’s experience in corporate governance, risk management and regulatory affairs as particularly valuable.
Slattery said he looks forward to working with Azul’s board and management team to advance the airline’s strategic priorities and build on the transformational measures implemented during the restructuring process.
The appointment signals Azul’s intent to strengthen governance and strategic oversight as it seeks to stabilize operations, improve financial performance and position itself competitively within Brazil’s dynamic aviation market.
