Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), signed a new agreement with Bahrain Duty-Free for the acquisition of more space for its luxury retail offerings at BIA. The move solidifies the strong growth of the business and cements Bahrain Duty-Free as the leading global travel retailer in the MENA region. The signing ceremony took place at the Bahrain International Airshow 2022, where both BAC and Bahrain Duty-Free were Gold Sponsors. The agreement was signed by BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah and Bahrain Duty-Free Board Director and CEO, Bassam Al Wardi. In attendance was the Minister of Industry and Commerce and Gulf Air Group Chairman, His Excellency Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani.

Bahrain Duty-Free’s new agreement gives it access to 2,500 sqm of warehouse space at the upcoming Express Air Cargo Village, which will streamline its operations and enhance efficiency. Bahrain Duty-Free will move its refrigerated storage area to within the warehouse and build a new facility with land and airside access.

Bahrain Duty-Free Board Director and CEO, Bassam Al Wardi, said: “We are once again honored to further strengthen our partnership with BAC. This agreement for new space will enhance our capacity and infrastructure to accommodate future growth and meet the demands of international travelers. Bahrain Duty-Free is at the heart of global travel retail in the MENA region, and the new space will further solidify our commitment to elevating the airport shopping experience in the Kingdom of Bahrain onto the world stage. We are looking forward to a prosperous future in partnership with BAC, whose support will enable us to make our own processes and operations more efficient moving forwards,”

BAC CEO Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: “One of BAC’s most important goals is to deliver a memorable travel experience. From day one, we have aspired for BIA to be much more than just a waiting area for the next flight. BIA’s extensive selection of commercial offerings, which include a diverse range of retail and dining options, ensure passengers enjoy their time rather than counting the minutes to departure. Our growing partnership with Bahrain Duty-Free will further enhance BIA’s offerings and its reputation as a leading shopping destination.”

Bahrain Duty-Free has seen substantial and simultaneous growth in its workplace and customer base over the past year. Currently occupying 1,100 sqm at BIA, the award-winning global travel retailer has seen a significant surge in sales and travelers passing through the store, reflecting increased demand for a luxury and authentic shopping experience.

Bahrain Duty-Free caters to all requirements, both for customers and its workforce. The innovative technology, processes, and renowned brand partnerships it strives for keep it at the forefront of global travel retail.
