As Viet Nam anticipates the peak travel season for the upcoming New Year and Têt (Vietnamese New Year), Bamboo Airways (QH, Hanoi Noi Bai International) is strategically boosting its capacity by leasing two narrowbody Airbus aircraft. This move marks a notable development in the airline’s fleet consolidation process, signaling a positive turn after recent restructuring efforts.

The announcement came through a statement on December 11, 2023, where Bamboo Airways confirmed the impending wet-lease arrangement. The airline secured an A320-200 and A321-200 from an undisclosed lessor, with both aircraft slated to commence operations from January 1, 2024. These additions mark the first fleet expansions since Bamboo Airways underwent restructuring, leading to the return of several aircraft to lessors.

“The successful leasing of two aircraft and increased load to serve the Tet peak season affirms Bamboo Airways’ recovery efforts, as well as demonstrates the trust of partners in the airline’s existence and development,” emphasized a spokesperson for Bamboo Airways.

Presently, Bamboo’s fleet comprises 15 aircraft, including two A320-200s, four A320-200Ns, four A321-200s, and five ERJ 190-100LRs. The two newly leased aircraft are expected to bolster the airline’s seat capacity by 20% during the holiday period. Bamboo Airways plans to strategically deploy this additional capacity on key routes, focusing on connecting major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh City, Thanh Hoa, and Haiphong.

As Bamboo Airways readies itself for the surge in travel demand, this expansion not only signifies a positive trajectory for the airline but also underscores its commitment to meeting passenger needs during peak travel seasons.
