Bangkok Airways Considers Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer for Fleet Renewal
Bangkok Airways is exploring options with Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer as part of its fleet renewal strategy over the next four to five years. According to a Bloomberg report on March 18, 2025, CEO Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth revealed that the airline is looking to acquire up to 30 narrowbody aircraft to support its growing operations.
In an interview, Prasarttong-Osoth explained that the airline plans to initiate discussions with the three aircraft manufacturers for an initial order of at least 20 aircraft, with options for an additional 10 units in the future. This move is in response to a significant increase in tourism to Thailand, with the airline aiming to modernize its fleet and expand its network to meet rising demand.
As part of its fleet renewal plans, Bangkok Airways is also considering leasing aircraft, providing flexibility to meet its growth goals. “We need to grow, and a new aircraft fleet would be mandatory,” Prasarttong-Osoth said, highlighting the importance of fleet modernization in the airline’s long-term strategy.
Currently, Bangkok Airways operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, which includes 12 Airbus A319-100s and 10 ATR 72-600s. The airline’s main hub is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok, and it operates both domestic and international flights to popular tourist destinations such as Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap, Da Nang, and Hong Kong.
The fleet renewal process reflects Bangkok Airways’ commitment to enhancing its passenger experience and expanding its capacity to serve increasing tourist traffic to Thailand, ensuring the airline remains competitive in the region’s rapidly growing travel market.
