Bayelsa, Nigeria to see scheduled pax traffic in early 3Q21
United Nigeria Airlines (NUA, Enugu) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bayelsa, an oil-rich state located in the centre of Nigeria’s Niger Delta region. Under the agreement signed this week, the nascent carrier will start scheduled flights to/from Bayelsa International Airport next month, the airfield’s first such services. “United Nigeria will service the Bayelsa International Airport daily from the Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MM2) and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. With the MoU, the airline will commence direct flight operations to Bayelsa International Airport in July,” United Nigeria spokesman Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu said in a statement to the local press. Located on Wilberforce Island in the state capital of Yenogoa, Bayelsa airport secured its operating licence from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in April this year. However, it has yet to secure any scheduled traffic. For its part, United Nigeria currently connects Abuja with Lagos, Asaba, Enugu, Owerri, and Port Harcourt Omagwa using a fleet of four E145s.
