Best Jets Retires Citation Excel, Focuses on Group Travel

Best Jets International, based at St. Paul Holman Downtown Airport (DOW), has retired its sole Citation aircraft, a Citation Excel, from its Part 135-certified fleet. According to ch-aviation research, this move reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize its charter operations and align its fleet with evolving client needs.
The Citation Excel, registered as N885BB (msn 560-5135), was last active under the ‘DOW’ code on September 9, 2024, conducting a test flight around its St. Paul base. Configured to accommodate up to eight passengers, the 24-year-old jet has been removed from Best Jets International’s Part 135 certification and is no longer in service.
With the retirement of the Citation Excel, Best Jets International’s Part 135-certified fleet now consists of seven executive jets. These include two Challenger 300s, a Falcon 2000, a Falcon 900, a Falcon 900DX, a Gulfstream G550, and a Gulfstream GV. This diverse lineup enables the private jet charter company to cater to a wide range of luxury travel needs, offering passengers a seamless blend of comfort, performance, and convenience.
In addition to its executive jets, Best Jets International operates two Embraer E170s within its Part 135 fleet, specially configured for group travel with seating for up to 30 passengers. These aircraft have been integral to the company’s ability to provide customized charter solutions for larger parties. Notably, the E170s served charter flights to Anguilla in 2023, transporting guests to the Aurora Anguilla Resort & Club. This high-end Caribbean destination is owned by Richard M. Schulze, the founder of both Best Jets International and the electronics retail giant Best Buy.
The strategic adjustment to Best Jets International’s fleet underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining operational efficiency and delivering tailored travel experiences to its clients. By focusing on larger, more versatile aircraft, the operator is well-positioned to meet the demands of both individual luxury travelers and group charter clients.
As the private aviation market continues to evolve, Best Jets International’s emphasis on fleet optimization and service excellence ensures its competitive edge in the industry. The retirement of the Citation Excel marks a step forward in this strategy, paving the way for further innovations in the company’s charter offerings.
