Boeing 777X Nears FAA Certification, Potentially Boosting Revenue by $2 Billion
Boeing’s latest aircraft, the 777X, has reportedly made significant progress towards achieving certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), potentially unlocking $2 billion in revenue for the aerospace manufacturer. According to a report by the Air Current, the FAA has initiated crucial certification flights for the 777X, marking a pivotal step in the aircraft’s journey towards entering commercial service.
While the 777-9, which is making its debut at the Paris Air Show, targets entry into service in 2025, its timeline has been impacted by various factors, such as the global pandemic and heightened regulatory scrutiny following the 737 MAX accidents in 2018 and 2019. The aircraft’s presence at the air show coincides with Boeing’s anticipation of receiving type inspection authorization (TIA) from the FAA, a significant step that will mark the formal initiation of the certification process.
Justin Hale, Boeing’s 777X customer leader and product marketing director, affirms the readiness of the airplane for TIA, with the three active development aircraft already accumulating around 3,000 flight hours and 1,000 cycles.
This development comes as a significant boost for Boeing, which has faced numerous challenges and setbacks in recent years. The certification of the 777X could not only improve Boeing’s financial standing but also restore confidence in its manufacturing capabilities and safety standards.
Deutsche Bank has projected that the successful certification and subsequent commercial deployment of the 777X could result in a substantial revenue increase for Boeing. This long-awaited move could rejuvenate Boeing’s market position, particularly as it competes with rivals like Airbus in the long-haul, wide-body aircraft segment.
