Boeing CEO: Musk Helping Speed Up Air Force One Deliveries

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg revealed that Elon Musk is assisting the company in resolving delays in delivering the new Air Force One jets. Speaking at the Barclays Industrial Select Conference, Ortberg emphasized that Musk is helping Boeing navigate requirements, accelerating production timelines, and reducing cost overrun risks.

“Elon Musk is actually helping us a lot in working through the requirements so we can deliver the aircraft faster,” Ortberg said. He praised Musk’s ability to distinguish critical technical requirements from unnecessary hurdles, aiding efficiency.

Earlier this week, a senior U.S. official warned that Air Force One deliveries may be delayed until 2029 or later due to supply chain disruptions. Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Boeing over the delays, suggesting his administration may need to explore other options.

Meanwhile, Boeing is working to ramp up production of its 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner jets to at least 38 per month while managing $1.7 billion in defense-related charges from Q4. Ortberg stated that U.S. aviation regulators will visit Boeing’s Seattle facilities in March to assess ongoing efforts.

Boeing is also addressing supply chain challenges, including a fire at SPS Technologies, a key 787 fastener supplier. Despite the disruption, Ortberg assured that critical parts are secure but currently stuck in warehouses.

As Boeing navigates production challenges, Musk’s involvement could play a key role in accelerating Air Force One deliveries.
