Boeing Delivers 45 Aircraft in January 2025, Outperforming Airbus

Boeing outpaced rival Airbus in aircraft deliveries during January 2025, with the US aircraft manufacturer delivering 45 planes, compared to Airbus’s 25 deliveries to 17 customers during the same period. This marked the highest number of deliveries Boeing had achieved since December 2023 and the first time it had surpassed Airbus in monthly deliveries since March 2023.

Boeing’s strong performance comes on the heels of a challenging 2024, which included a significant production setback following the Alaska Airlines incident in January 2024, severely affecting the company’s delivery capacity for much of the year. However, Boeing’s January 2025 delivery figures demonstrate a rebound after a seven-week strike in September 2024 and subsequent recovery efforts to ensure production safety before resuming operations.

Out of the 45 aircraft delivered in January, 40 were 737 MAX jets, serving customers including United Airlines (seven aircraft), Southwest Airlines (five aircraft), and Air Lease Corporation (three aircraft). Additionally, Boeing delivered four 787 Dreamliners and one 777 Freighter, further contributing to the company’s strong performance.

The Seattle Times reported that 10 of the 737 MAX jets delivered in January had been in long-term storage awaiting rework. This delivery figure is notable given the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a production cap on the 737 MAX, limiting deliveries to 38 jets per month after the Alaska Airlines incident. Boeing does not expect to reach production levels beyond this cap until later in 2025.

Boeing also secured 36 new orders in January 2025, all from undisclosed customers. The orders included 34 737 MAX aircraft and two 777 Freighters, which add to the company’s growing backlog as it works to stabilize its production and delivery timelines following the earlier setbacks.

Despite the hurdles of 2024, Boeing’s performance in January 2025 signals a positive shift in the company’s ability to meet market demand and is a step toward reclaiming its position as a leader in aircraft deliveries.
