Boeing to add two B737 P2F-conversion lines as demand soars
Boeing (BOE, Chicago O’Hare) has announced it will open two new B737-800 passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion lines to cope with a growing pool of orders and commitments for B737-800(BCF)s. The American manufacturer said that the lines will be located at Guangzhou and Singapore Seletar airports. The former, run by Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Limited (GAMECO), is scheduled to open in early 2021 and will be the MRO provider’s second B737 conversion line. The latter will be run by ST Engineering and is scheduled to open by the end of 2020. The MRO provider currently has one Boeing conversion line for widebody B767-300(ERBCF) aircraft. Boeing simultaneously announced a new order for two B737-800(BCF)s from an undisclosed customer. Out of the total of 134 orders and commitments for the type, the manufacturer has so far delivered 36 units to 10 customers. According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, the world’s largest B737-800(BCF) operators are Sun Country Airlines (SY, Minneapolis/St. Paul) and Southern Air (9S, Cincinnati Int’l) with 10 and seven units, respectively.
