Boeing Wins $173M Contract for Eight MH-139A Grey Wolf Helicopters

Boeing has secured a $173 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to build eight additional MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters, along with training and sustainment services, reinforcing the program’s role in national security and base protection missions.
“The MH-139A offers increased speed, range, and payload capacity critical to supporting U.S. national security missions,” said Azeem Khan, Boeing’s MH-139 program director. “We look forward to delivering these advanced aircraft to bases across the country.”
This latest award follows a $178 million contract for seven helicopters issued in April 2024, bringing the total number of aircraft under contract to 34. The new order includes the first aircraft scheduled for delivery to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. The Air Force recently completed Initial Operational Test and Evaluation flights as the program moves toward achieving Initial Operational Capability.
Boeing has delivered 18 MH-139A helicopters to date, including 12 low-rate initial production units, with deliveries for the first operational squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana already completed. Four additional aircraft are expected to be delivered by year’s end.
Derived from Leonardo’s proven AW139 platform, the MH-139A is customized by Boeing for military use, featuring advanced systems for patrol, search and rescue, and transport missions.
“The MH-139A Grey Wolf represents the best of partnership and proven capability,” said Robert Beyer, senior program manager at Leonardo Helicopters. “By building on the trusted AW139 platform, we’re delivering a versatile, reliable aircraft that enhances mission readiness and supports American manufacturing and jobs.”
