Boeing has secured a significant contract from the U.S. Air Force for the production of 15 additional KC-46A Pegasus tankers under Lot 10. The contract is valued at $2.3 billion ($153 million unit cost) bringing the total number of KC-46A multi-mission aerial refuelers on contract globally to 153. This expansion enhances the advanced capabilities available to the joint force and its allies.

Lynn Fox, Vice President and KC-46 Program Manager, expressed gratitude for the partnership with the U.S. Air Force, highlighting how it allows for the growth in capacity and capability of the KC-46A fleet. She emphasized Boeing’s commitment to evolving the aircraft to meet the changing needs of mission requirements, especially in today’s dynamic global environment.

The Boeing KC-46A boasts an impressive configuration, powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW4062 engines. It spans approximately 165 feet in length, with a wingspan of 156 feet, slightly longer than its commercial counterpart, the Boeing 767-200ER.

The KC-46A Pegasus is a transformative aircraft for the 21st century, boasting a supplier network of around 37,000 American workers across over 650 businesses spanning more than 40 U.S. states. Its versatility extends beyond traditional aerial refueling, encompassing cargo and passenger transportation, aeromedical evacuation support, and tactical data connectivity at the frontline. The KC-46A is widely recognized as a “game changer” due to its data transmission and exchange capabilities, enabling rapid air mobility, global reach, and Agile Combat Employment.

Earlier this year, Boeing was awarded a Block 1 upgrade contract by the Air Force, further enhancing the aircraft’s communication capabilities to bolster data connectivity and situational awareness.

Boeing’s commitment to delivering top-notch KC-46A aircraft is evident, with 76 units already delivered to the U.S. Air Force and an additional two to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
