Boeing’s 777X to Embark on Test Routes from Dubai International in Partnership with Emirates
Boeing and General Electric (GE) Aerospace are collaborating to test potential routes for the 777X aircraft with Emirates Airlines in 2024. A 777X-9 test aircraft, equipped with the GE9X engine, will be sent to Emirates, where it will undergo a two-month route proving program at Dubai International Airport (DXB). Stan Deal, the President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, confirmed this partnership.
Boeing is currently in the process of certifying the 777X with the United States (US) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In the past, there were disagreements between the FAA and EASA on certification and design principles, but these issues have now been resolved, and the certification process is back on track. David Calhoun, President and CEO of Boeing, expressed confidence in GE Aerospace’s efforts to fix the engine-related problems.
Calhoun stated that the 777X is expected to be certified by 2025. However, Emirates’ President, Tim Clark, has criticized Boeing’s delays in the 777X program, expressing concerns that the airline might not receive its first aircraft until July 2025. Emirates has a total order of 115 Boeing 777X aircraft.
The collaboration between Boeing, GE Aerospace, and Emirates aims to address any potential issues and ensure a smooth entry of the 777X into service with the airline.
