Bolloré Logistics has partnered with French airship firm FLYING WHALES for the future transport of heavy and oversized shipments.

The agreement will see Bolloré Logistics use the FLYING WHALES LCA60T airship, due for a maiden flight in late 2025, to transport exceptionally heavy or oversized loads.

The LCA60T airship is designed for lifting and/or transporting abnormal loads of up to 60 tonnes.

It will be able to deliver to remote locations and areas that are difficult to access via conventional modes of transport.

The LCA60T will be produced in France at the FLYING WHALES production plant in Gironde. FLYING WHALES will also benefit from a plant in Quebec for the Americas, and a third one in the Asia Pacific region.

FLYING WHALES’ mission is to provide reliable transport and avoid transhipment, while keeping costs down and minimizing environmental impact.

The partnership is in alignment with Bolloré Logistics’ decarbonisation goals.

As part of its “Powering Sustainable Logistics” programme, Bolloré Logistics has committed to decarbonising Scopes 1, 2 & 3 and offering customers a wider range of carbon-reduced transport modes.

“We are particularly proud of this agreement with FLYING WHALES. Deliveries by LCA60T will enable us to provide our customers with an extensive choice of vehicles in order to decarbonise the transport of the goods they entrust us with.” said Philippe Lejeune, energy and projects director – Bolloré Logistics Europe.

The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Breakbulk exhibition in Rotterdam.

The CMA CGM Group entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire Bolloré Logistics’ transportation and logistics activities in April.
