A Hawaiian Airlines flight departing San Diego International Airport was evacuated on May 14 after a bomb threat was reported, leading to the arrest of one passenger.

The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. as Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15, an Airbus A330 bound for Honolulu, pushed back from the gate. A flight attendant informed the captain that a passenger had claimed someone onboard had a bomb, according to a statement from the Port of San Diego Harbor Police.

The captain immediately contacted authorities. SWAT teams and the FBI responded to the scene and searched the aircraft. No explosives or suspicious items were found, and officials confirmed there was no threat to the public.

A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with making a false bomb threat and a false report of a security threat. Authorities said the man falsely reported that the passenger seated next to him had a bomb.

Hawaiian Airlines confirmed the threat in a statement, saying a guest had been overheard making a safety-related remark and the captain alerted authorities as a precaution.

All 293 passengers and crew members aboard the flight were safely evacuated and transported by bus to a secure location during the investigation.

After law enforcement cleared the aircraft, passengers reboarded, and the flight departed for Honolulu at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Authorities emphasized that making false threats of this nature carries serious legal consequences and disrupts air travel safety and operations.
