Bombardier Global 7500 Sets 150th Speed Record in Business Aviation

Bombardier’s flagship Global 7500 has cemented its place as the fastest and longest-range business jet in operation, setting its 150th speed record—more than any other single business aircraft type to date.
The Canadian manufacturer announced the milestone this week, highlighting a series of new city-pair records including Tokyo–Los Angeles, Toronto–Paris, New York–London, and Hong Kong–Montreal, with several of these flights completed in under 12 hours at cruise speeds approaching Mach 0.90. By consistently delivering record-setting performance in both range and speed, the Global 7500 continues to redefine the limits of modern business aviation.
Bombardier’s flagship Global 7500 has cemented its place as the world’s fastest and longest-range business jet, combining record-breaking performance with luxury. Powered by two GE Passport engines, the aircraft reaches a top speed of Mach 0.925 and cruises efficiently at Mach 0.85–0.90, with a maximum range of 7,700 nautical miles—enough to fly nonstop between New York and Hong Kong. Its advanced Smooth Flĕx Wing design enhances lift, reduces fuel burn, and enables impressive short-field performance, with takeoff runs as low as 5,760 feet and landing distances around 2,200 feet.
The General Electric Passport is a turbofan developed by GE Aerospace for large business jets. It was selected in 2010 to power the Bombardier Global 7500 and 8000, first run on June 24, 2013, and first flown in 2015.
Operating at altitudes up to 51,000 feet, the Global 7500 offers a smoother ride above commercial traffic, while its four-zone cabin features expansive living spaces, large windows, and cutting-edge connectivity for ultimate comfort on ultra-long-haul missions. This blend of speed, range, and refinement has made the Global 7500 a benchmark in modern business aviation.
Among its most celebrated feats are two historic flights: the longest business aviation mission ever recorded—a nonstop 8,225 nm (15,233 km) journey from Sydney to Detroit (with modest tailwinds averaging 20 knots)—and the fastest coast-to-coast “record” between Los Angeles and New York, where the Global 7500 sustained Mach 0.925 for over two hours and completed the trip in 3 hours 54 minutes. These achievements build on the aircraft’s track record since entering service in 2018, with the 7500 repeatedly setting speed and distance benchmarks in the ultra-long-range business jet class.
“The Global 7500 continues to redefine what is possible in business aviation,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, executive vice president of Aircraft Sales and Bombardier Defense. “What makes these achievements remarkable is that many records were set with passengers on board, across varying airport conditions and operational scenarios.”
Performance at the Top of the Market
Capable of flying at speeds up to Mach 0.925 with a baseline range of 7,700nm (14,260km), the Global 7500 has become the benchmark for ultra-long-range business travel. Its Smooth Flĕx Wing technology not only boosts aerodynamic efficiency but also reduces fuel burn, lowers emissions, and delivers superior performance on both short runways and high-speed missions.
The aircraft’s cabin is equally noteworthy, offering four distinct living spaces, a full-size kitchen, and the industry’s lowest cabin altitude, designed to reduce fatigue on intercontinental flights. These features have made it a favorite among corporate leaders, governments, and private owners seeking both productivity and luxury in the sky.
Bombardier delivered the 200th Global 7500 in December 2024, underscoring the jet’s commercial success alongside its technical achievements.
Next: The Global 8000
The milestone comes as Bombardier prepares to debut its next flagship, the Global 8000, which is expected to enter service later this decade. Designed with a range of 8,000nm (14,816km) and a top speed of Mach 0.94, the new model will build on the 7500’s legacy while offering even greater efficiency, comfort, and performance.
With its 150th speed record secured, the Global 7500 has set a new bar in business aviation—proving that luxury, range, and speed can be seamlessly combined in a single aircraft.
