Bombardier Global 8000 Wins FAA Type Certification

Bombardier has secured United States Federal Aviation Administration type certification for its flagship Global 8000, marking a major regulatory milestone for the ultra-long-range business jet program. The FAA approval was granted on December 19 and clears the aircraft for commercial operation in the world’s largest business aviation market.
The certification follows the Global 8000’s entry into service earlier in December, after Bombardier received type certification from Transport Canada in November. The first aircraft is operating under the management of Chartright Air, based at Toronto Pearson International Airport, demonstrating Bombardier’s ability to move rapidly from certification to real-world operations.
With FAA and Transport Canada approvals now in hand, Bombardier has cleared two of the three major regulatory hurdles required for global operations. Certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency remains pending and is expected to follow, paving the way for unrestricted operations across Europe and other EASA-recognised jurisdictions.
The Global 8000 represents the pinnacle of Bombardier’s Global family and is positioned as the fastest and longest-range purpose-built business jet ever developed. The aircraft is designed to fly up to 8,000 nautical miles at high-speed cruise, connecting city pairs such as Los Angeles–Sydney, Hong Kong–New York, and Dubai–Houston nonstop. With a top speed of Mach 0.94, it also claims the title of the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde.
Inside the cabin, the Global 8000 features Bombardier’s signature ultra-long-range comfort, including four distinct living spaces, a full-size crew rest area, and the company’s Nuage seating. Advanced soundproofing, optimized cabin altitude, and Bombardier’s Smooth Flĕx Wing are designed to enhance passenger comfort while improving aerodynamic efficiency and field performance.
The FAA certification strengthens Bombardier’s competitive position at the top end of the business jet market, where it competes with Gulfstream’s G700 and G800 programs. With entry into service already underway, Bombardier can now begin broader customer deliveries to US-based owners and operators, a critical segment for the Global 8000.
For Bombardier, the approval underscores its execution capability following several years of development and testing. As the company ramps up production and awaits EASA validation, the Global 8000 is set to play a central role in Bombardier’s strategy to dominate the ultra-long-range business aviation segment, appealing to corporate flight departments, charter operators, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals seeking speed, range, and operational flexibility.
