Boston Logan International Airport commemorated its 100-year anniversary by unveiling four new gates at Terminal E, primarily dedicated to international flights. These new gates are part of a comprehensive $750 million renovation project, which includes the addition of a new security checkpoint, upgraded concessions, departure lounges, and energy-efficient operational enhancements.

This renovation project, initiated in spring 2019 and completed in summer 2023, augmented Terminal E with approximately 390,000 square feet of additional space, bringing the total number of gates to 19. The new security checkpoint features seven lanes equipped with advanced imaging technology, allowing travelers to keep laptops and electronic devices in their carry-on bags during the screening process.

The project also significantly improved the passenger experience, offering more comfortable waiting areas, diverse seating options, a variety of local and internationally inspired dining and retail outlets, and dynamic glass elements providing shade from sun glares. Moreover, sustainability features were incorporated, such as water conservation, waste management and recycling, air quality enhancement, and reduced energy consumption.

Lisa Wieland, CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates Boston Logan, emphasized the importance of providing a world-class international gateway for the city and state. Boston Logan is among the busiest airports in the U.S., boasting over 120 nonstop destinations and serving more than 31 million passengers in 2022.
