Breeze Airways has announced the launch of its longest nonstop route, more than 2,250 nautical miles, between T.F. Green International Airport in Rhode Island and Los Angeles International Airport in California. The route will use Breeze’s Airbus A220 fleet, powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines.

The GTF is the exclusive engine of the Airbus A220 family, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 25% per seat, NOx emissions by up to 50% and noise footprint by up to 75%. Additionally, the engine is certified for 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with successful tests completed using 100% SAF.

“GTF engines enabled airlines like Breeze to fly long, think transcontinental routes with game-changing aircraft like the A220,” said Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines, Pratt & Whitney. “The inauguration of service between Providence to Los Angeles marks a major milestone in the airline’s rapid growth.”

Breeze currently operates a fleet of 12 Airbus A220-300 aircraft and is expecting a 13th delivery, as well as an additional 66 A220-300s on order. Additionally, the airline operates a fleet of Embraer E190 and E195 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney APS2300 auxiliary power units (APU).

“GTF engine technology for the A220 has been foundational to the growth and success of Breeze over the past two years, said David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways.
