Breeze Airways Set to Double Its Route Network from Providence by 2029

Breeze Airways is significantly expanding its operations at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Providence, with plans to serve 35 destinations by 2029, nearly doubling the current 18 routes. Founded in 2021 by CEO David Neeleman, Breeze established a base at PVD in 2023 and currently operates 132 weekly flights.

This expansion, outlined in a new agreement between PVD and Breeze, will see the airline increase its weekly flights to 200 across 35 nonstop routes within the next five years. Notably, the expansion plan includes Breeze’s first international flights or routes to U.S. territories, as the airline currently operates domestically.

Alicia Seabury, PVD’s marketing director, highlighted the future scope of the airline’s operations at Routes Americas 2024, noting, “Breeze plans to operate coast-to-coast flights from PVD and eventually to Europe, once preparations are in place.”

In support of its growth, Breeze will base up to 12 aircraft at the airport and aims to double its workforce at PVD from 200 to 400 employees. Neeleman emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving rapid success, crediting strong support from airport, government, and community partners.

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee expressed optimism about the economic impact of Breeze’s expansion, stating, “This expansion will not only bring more economic activity and good-paying jobs but will also increase visitor numbers and enhance Rhode Island’s status as a true destination state.”

Currently, PVD ranks as one of 11 airports where Breeze operates the most destinations. The airline’s broader network includes over 170 nonstop routes, connecting 56 airports in 29 states. With an ambitious vision, Neeleman has suggested Breeze could operate as many as 2,000 routes in the future.

Breeze also announced it has taken delivery of its 25th Airbus A220-300, with plans to integrate 65 more A220s over the next five years, approximately one per month. By autumn 2024, all scheduled services are expected to be operated by A220s.

The airline recently achieved its first monthly operating profit in March and is poised to record its first full quarter of operational profitability in the second quarter of 2024, amid ongoing expansion of both its network and fleet.
