Erring on the side of caution, officials evacuated the area when they found an unattended package at San Francisco International Airport.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon and took place in the Terminal 2 food court near Gate D. Employees returned to work and the incident was cleared at about 2:25 p.m. Pacific time. In all, officials said the incident lasted about one hour, but nothing was found.

As of Monday morning, officials still have not determined what the item was.

Airport security first initiated the evacuation, although police were later called. There were no appreciable delays at San Francisco International as the country gets ready to fly next weekend for Memorial Day. Operations at the airport were restored and are back to normal this morning, although no resolution to the incident has been reached.

The amount of passengers is expected to increase 20 percent for the holiday weekend.
