As airlines announce exciting new routes, Tbilisi, Georgia, is emerging as a popular destination for travelers. Both British Airways and easyJet have unveiled plans to operate flights connecting the UK with the Georgian capital city in the northern summer season of 2025.

Georgia is renowned for its rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Often celebrated as the birthplace of wine, the country boasts an 8,000-year tradition of winemaking that remains integral to its cultural identity. Tbilisi, nestled along the banks of the Mtkvari River and surrounded by the picturesque Caucasus Mountains, draws visitors with its historic architecture, diverse cuisine, and the charm of its old town. Nearby attractions include stunning canyons, caves, and multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites, making Georgia a captivating destination for all types of travelers.

Starting March 30, 2025, British Airways will launch flights from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), operating four times a week. Passengers will have the option to choose between Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy) for their journey. Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed excitement about reintroducing Tbilisi to the airline’s route network after a hiatus since 2013. He anticipates strong demand for this route, particularly among leisure travelers and those wishing to visit friends and family.

“We expect this to be a popular route with the leisure market, which has seen a strong comeback since 2019,” Chernoff said. The new flights will depart Heathrow at 21:25 and arrive in Tbilisi at 05:30 the next morning. The return flight will leave Tbilisi at 07:30 on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving back at Heathrow at 10:00.

In a parallel announcement, easyJet revealed it would launch its own service to Tbilisi from London Luton Airport (LTN), starting in early April 2025. This low-cost airline will operate twice weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays. The outbound flights are expected to take around six hours, with return flights lasting approximately six hours and 40 minutes. On Tuesdays, easyJet flights (EZY2649) will leave Luton at 11:25, arriving in Tbilisi at 20:25. The return flights will depart Tbilisi at 20:55, landing back in Luton at 22:15.

This marks the first low-cost service between the UK and Tbilisi since Wizz Air suspended its route in 2020. The introduction of easyJet’s flights is expected to enhance budget-friendly travel options, opening new connections between the UK and destinations across Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and beyond into China.

Both British Airways and easyJet’s announcements highlight Tbilisi’s growing appeal as a travel destination and signal a positive shift in connectivity for Georgia, fostering tourism and cultural exchange. With its unique blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty, Tbilisi is set to become a must-visit city for travelers looking to explore new horizons.
