British Airways faces mounting flight delays due to software issues
British Airways passengers are facing long airport queues after an issue with flight planning software disrupted its transatlantic flights.
According to a statement by the airline, the issue was due to third-party flight planning software.
Some flights, per the British Airways website, have been canceled, such as Flight BA0173 between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or Flight BA 20129 between LHR and Denver International Airport (DEN).
Other flights, such as Flight BA192 operated by an Airbus A380 between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and LHR, departed for the British capital as late as six hours.
“Our teams have now resolved a temporary issue that affected some of our long-haul flight planning systems overnight, which resulted in delays to our schedule,” British Airways said in a statement issued to AeroTime. The London-based airline reiterated that it is not a safety issue as it did not affect flights that have already departed and that short-haul flights have not been affected throughout the day.
“We’re sorry for the disruption caused to our customers’ travel plans,” the airline added.
