Brussels Airlines has confirmed plans to expand its fleet with an order for five additional Airbus A320neo aircraft, strengthening its commitment to sustainability and passenger comfort while positioning for future growth.

On August 29, 2025, the Lufthansa Group subsidiary announced that its board of directors had approved the new investment, which will bring its total A320neo commitment to 13 aircraft once deliveries are complete.

Fleet Expansion and Delivery Timeline

Brussels Airlines currently operates five Airbus A320neos and has three more scheduled to arrive from Toulouse beginning in November 2025. The newly ordered batch of five will begin joining the fleet from 2027 onwards. While four will replace older-generation aircraft, one will be dedicated to expanding the fleet, allowing the carrier to grow capacity on key European and medium-haul routes.

“This investment underlines Brussels Airlines’ commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, enhancing the passenger experience, and growing sustainably and profitably,” the airline said in a statement.

Brussels Airlines operates an all-Airbus fleet composed of the following aircraft, as of August 2025:

  • A319-100 in service 14 older aircraft to be replaced by Airbus A320neo.
  • A320-200 in service 16
  • A320neo in service 5 and 8 orders, replacing older Airbus A319-100.
  • Airbus A330-300 in service 11 and 2 orders to be transferred from Lufthansa.

Environmental and Passenger Benefits

The Airbus A320neo is widely recognized as one of the most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft on the market, delivering up to 20% lower CO₂ emissions and 50% less noise compared to previous-generation models. Brussels Airlines emphasized that the addition of these aircraft aligns with its long-term strategy to modernize its fleet while maintaining cost efficiency.

CEO Dorothea von Boxberg said: “Brussels Airlines has worked very hard to achieve a cost structure that allows the airline to be sustainably profitable, enabling us to reinvest in our company. The A320neo reduces our environmental footprint and offers a more pleasant experience for our passengers. We are very happy to welcome more of these state-of-the-art aircraft to our fleet.”

Long-Haul Growth Plans

In parallel with its short- and medium-haul renewal, Brussels Airlines is also expanding its long-haul fleet. The airline plans to operate 13 Airbus A330 aircraft by 2027, with new cabins set to be rolled out across its intercontinental network. According to ch-aviation, Brussels Airlines currently operates 10 active Airbus A330-300s.

With both short-haul and long-haul investments underway, Brussels Airlines is reinforcing its position as a key carrier within the Lufthansa Group, aiming to meet rising demand while reducing its environmental impact and improving the travel experience for its customers.
