Brussels Airlines is taking steps to enhance the business class dining experience on its short and medium haul flights. Throughout the month of June 2023, the airline will introduce weekly menus that showcase the culinary specialties of Belgium, offering a delightful gastronomic journey to its business class passengers.

The airline aims to not only reinforce its position as Belgium’s national carrier but also to prioritize environmental sustainability with its upgraded business class dining experience.

Growing demand for business class travel Brussels Airlines has observed a significant increase in the number of Belgian travelers showing interest in flying business class. In April 2023, the airline experienced a doubling of business class seat bookings compared to the same period in 2019.

To cater to this rising demand, Brussels Airlines’ inflight catering product team has developed a new concept for business class meals on short and medium haul flights. The focus is on providing fresh, diverse food options using locally sourced products from Belgium.

Sharing Belgian culinary expertise Xandra Quak, Inflight Product Manager at Brussels Airlines, expressed the airline’s commitment to showcasing Belgian culinary expertise, stating, “Belgium is renowned for its high-quality cuisine, and it’s important for us to share the Belgian culinary know-how with our international guests.”

Business class meal offerings: Freshness and variety Throughout June 2023, Brussels Airlines will serve a delectable breakfast menu on flights lasting less than 80 minutes, featuring fresh sandwiches accompanied by pain au chocolat or croissants and a selection of fresh fruits.

Passengers on longer flights, over 80 minutes, will enjoy a fresh seasonal salad alongside indulgent desserts such as macarons or Neuhaus chocolates.

For flights exceeding 2.5 hours, passengers can savor a hot meal accompanied by a dessert and a selection of fresh cheeses. The menus will vary on a weekly basis, ensuring frequent flyers can enjoy diverse culinary experiences during their travels.

Embracing sustainability: Reusable porcelain and cutlery In its efforts to reduce waste and promote sustainability, Brussels Airlines will reintroduce porcelain dishes and stainless steel cutlery in business class. These reusable alternatives are more environmentally friendly than single-use plastics. Additionally, plastic tubs of yogurt will be replaced with fresh yogurt served in porcelain bowls.

Extended collaboration with Neuhaus chocolates Brussels Airlines is extending its collaboration with renowned Belgian chocolatier Neuhaus. After a temporary break due to the pandemic, large chocolate boxes will once again be available on long haul flights, and every business class passenger will receive a special chocolate gift box. The partnership between the airline and Neuhaus has been ongoing since 2003.

This renewed collaboration will also extend to “THE LOFT” lounge at Brussels Airport (BRU), where guests can witness live chocolate making by master chocolatier Eric Lauwers. Nicolas Iritcity, Inflight Product Manager at Brussels Airlines, expressed his excitement about the longstanding partnership, emphasizing that over 300,000 business class passengers on long haul flights will have the opportunity to savor one of Belgium’s finest products.

By revamping its business class menu, reintroducing reusable tableware, and extending its collaboration with Neuhaus chocolates, Brussels Airlines is dedicated to providing an enhanced and sustainable dining experience for its esteemed business class passengers.
